Calm Seas and Craftsmanship: Modernization on Lyø

We are pleased to share an inspiring tale of our latest project on Lyø – a gem in the southern Funen archipelago.

We delivered the blacksmithing contract as part of a broader effort to modernize the worn-out treatment plant, unable to handle the increasing number of tourists visiting the island in the summer.

The project encompassed several key areas, including:

  • Pump and blacksmith installations in a newly established pumping station, which pumps to the Faaborg Wastewater Treatment Plant via a new sea pipeline.
  • Design, production, and installation of piping systems from pumps to the technical house, as well as a specially made two-part cover for the pump well for independent maintenance of both pumps.
  • Design, production, and installation of a piping system with two discharge stations for pigs (Pipeline Inspection Gauges). Also, installation of a hydro-pneumatic tank, chemical pump, and associated piping systems in the technical house
  • Covers and guide pipes for existing pumps, as well as vent pipes in the safety basin
  • Cover and collection grate for treatment pigs at Sinebjerg on the mainland

Even on a small island, one can build a bridge to success.

The size of the blacksmithing contract was not impressive in itself, but it was a versatile project that touched on many different tasks in blacksmithing and presented unique challenges, especially regarding the logistics to the charming island.

The limited ferry times and the lack of "just around the corner" resources required careful planning and cooperation across all parties involved. With good preparation and a proactive approach, it was possible to solve it in the best possible way; Communication was crucial, and our team showed that even on a small island, one can build a bridge to success.

Collaboration with other contracts on the construction site was also a key factor in the success. We prioritized good and efficient communication, which there was ample time for during the ferry crossing. This opened an opportunity to strengthen the bond between the client, consultants, and contractors. The informal time on the ferry contributed to creating a sense of community and commitment to the project's success. An added benefit of this has certainly been a positive atmosphere, seamless communication, and increased efficiency across the project.

The project on Lyø is an example of how teamwork, detailed planning, and good communication can lead to success. We are humbly proud to have contributed to this versatile project.
